Cole Simler

After moving north from his hometown of San Clemente, Cole started Cole surfboards in 1987. “I was going to school, and having a hard time getting good boards built quickly and I had always loved surfing and surfboards. I just started building a few for myself and my friends. I was also working at Central Coast Surfboards in San Luis Obispo  at the time. One thing lead to another, and things just kind of snowballed. By the time I finished school, I had enough business to begin making boards full time”.

In 1999 Cole relocated back to San Clemente, he hooked up with his old crew and began building boards for many top local, and international, pros including Matt Archbold, Nathan Fletcher, Bruce and Andy Irons, Chris Ward, and a host of others. Cole began working closely on various board design with Nathan Fletcher, and around this time Cole and Nathan began playing with some alternative boards, most notably quads, they found a winning formula in the Firefly bat tail quad model. Nathan began riding this design exclusively and showed the world that these boards were no gimmick, and that they were a viable design in all sizes of surf. Cole and Nathans work on the design has been credited with being a large part of re-introducing the high performance quad as a legitimate design.
