Founded in Oahu’s North Shore in the summer of 1971, Lightning Bolt was first comprised of Gerry Lopez, world champion surfer of the Banzai-Pipeline and Jack Shipley, surfboard shaping guru and North Shore legend. 40 years later Lightning Bolt has branched out, bringing with it the adventurous spirit and old-school aloha vibe of its founders, both in the United States and internationally with help of Hawaiian born surf veteran Jonathan Paskowitz. Since Lightning Bolt’s stateside revival Lightning Bolt has remained true to it’s roots, producing quality boards and garments that reflect Lightning Bolt’s driving philosophy: surfing in it’s purest form, is more than just a sport, it’s a way of life.
Today the Bolt is still a symbol that embodies the spirit of aloha and the surf life. The brand celebrates the passion of the individual, the core of surfing and its innate connection to nature and self-expression. Lightning Bolt is committed to remembering it’s roots and continuing to produce premium products for the conscious surfer and adventurer that emphasize quality, style and utility. At the end of the day, Lightning Bolt looks to create pieces which reflect the spirit at the heart of surf and that the customer is going to love, wear, and use as we would.
After 40 years of aloha, Lightning Bolt keeps an eye on it’s past, channeling the pioneering spirit of it’s founders into new frontiers of surfing.
